Happy Halloween! Today is the day where many of us will send the kids out trick or treating, maybe watch a scary movie or two, and dress up as a witch, ghost, or something pop-culture related. Here are three spooky, but true, Halloween stories.
Our first story takes us to a coffee shop in Alabama where it’s believed to be haunted by a US civil war soldier. The owners of the coffee shop have noticed strange, paranormal things happening ever since they bought the place. They heard things like rustling noises and mysterious footsteps when nobody was around. One of the staff members claims to have seen an apparition of a soldier walking towards them early in the morning and other staff members have reported seeing a combat boot print on an exploded carton of milk. The owner of the coffee shop decided to do some research and learned it was built in an area where confederate supply depots were once located. It’s thought the ghost is a deceased civil war soldier of the Confederate. I’ll bet he wasn’t cheering for the Yankees in the World Series!
Our next story takes us across the Atlantic so Poland where archaeologists discovered a mass grave of alleged vampires. They found one female victim estimated to be 350 years old. Why do they think she was a vampire? When they discovered her, she was buried with a sickle across her neck and a lock on her toe. Archaeologists believe that the people who buried her feared she’d rise from the grave as a vampire. If she woke up, it’s thought the lock on her toe would prevent her from getting out of her coffin while the sickle was supposed to decapitate her. Archaeologists also did scans of her body and discovered she had an abnormality in her breast bone that would have made her look a little different to everyone else, which meant many would have viewed her negatively. In all, 30 of 100 bodies discovered had locks and sickles on them.
Finally, 1000towns.ca has comprised a list of the top ten most haunted locations in Canada, and there’s even a Saskatchewan location listed! The top five list looks like this:
5. West Point Light House in O’Leary, PEI. It’s said to be haunted by a former lighthouse keeper.
4. The St. Louis train lights of St. Louis, SK. There have been numerous reports of people seeing train lights from a train that doesn’t exist and tracks have long since been picked up.
3. The King’s Playhouse in Georgetown, PEI. It’s believed the place is built on a sailor’s graveyard. A ghost named Captain George supposedly haunts the building now.
2. The Charlotte County Courthouse in St. Andrews, PEI. It is the oldest courthouse in Canada and many claim it’s haunted by prisoners of the past. There have been reports of a spectre roaming the grounds with a rope.
1. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. It’s believed to be haunted by “The Bride.” A gal who died on her wedding day is said to haunt the hotel with several reports of people seeing a ghostly female figure in a veil walking in the area where she passed away.
Spooky! Enjoy your October 31st.
