The time has come for us to roll up our sleeves and inform Saskatchewan of another Children’s Hospital Radio-thon. Stations from around the province are now part of this two day event. Twenty-two years ago, Harvard Broadcasting proudly took the lead on this event. At that time, it was a dream to have a children’s facility in the province that would enable expectant and newly anointed parents the comfort of getting medical assistance without travelling out of province.
This dream has come to fruition, the hospital in Saskatoon has been busy since it opened to the little patients and their families. And now each year we are there to remind families that more options available for family health care through the money raised, not just in these two days, but throughout the year. Some of the quick numbers from 2023 include: 1,081 NICU admissions and 225 NICU transports to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. The support of donors has helped over 83,000 Saskatchewan babies, children and moms-to-be each year at the hospital. That translates to 227 patient visits a day. So as you can imagine, things are busy. Here are some other tidbits you might not know. Every child and mom-to-be, including unborn babies, undergoes a heart and lung check upon admission. Fetal heart monitoring can indicate the urgency of delivery for newborns.
These are just a few of the things that happen with the Children’s Hospital facility. Each year there are new “wants and needs” from the doctors and nursing staff. Children require different equipment and have different needs from adults. Of course they do! By making a donation over the two radiothon days you will have a chance to see that donation put to good use AND double in size thanks to Gord and Barb Broda. This family has generously offered this match for years, 2024 is no different as they match up to $150,000.
Again, we remind you over twenty-two years over $16.41 million dollars has been raised. This year the money will focus on cardiac and respiratory care. Coming this Tuesday and Wednesday stories will be shared from kids, families, medical professionals, supporters and sponsors from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
