The biggest fears of Canadians

We all have a fear of something, whether it be spiders, heights, or even clowns! Yes, there are many who suffer from coulrophobia, a fear of clowns. In fact, there are several unusual phobias out there. A fear of chickens is called “alektorophobia” and a fear of birds in general is called “ornithophobia.” A feat of peanut butter is known as “arachibutyrophobia.” If you’re scared of being away from your smart phone, you suffer from “nomophobia.” Some people are frightened of the prospect of bathing and therefore suffer from “ablutophobia.” I’m not sure who would be scared of money, but those who are suffer from “plutophobia.” There’s even a fear of belly buttons! It’s called “omphalophobia.”

According to a recent poll of Canadians by casino.ca, none of the above phobias made the top five biggest fears of Canadians. The list is somewhat unsurprising as a lot of us share the same fears. The top five list looks like this:

5: Public Speaking

4: Spiders

3: Heights

2: Failure

And the number 1 fear of Canadians according to casino.ca, is the fear of death. For anyone who has watched the “Final Destination” movie series, they would share that fear of death!

By the way, the fear of being afraid is called “phobophobia.”
