Early Friday, November 8, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) began investigating a Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) incident resulting in a fatality. The incident began on November 7 when MJPS received reports around 11:42 p.m. of a silver Honda driving erratically and allegedly chasing another vehicle.
Police observed the vehicle speeding on Main Street and attempted to pursue it with lights and sirens activated. At 11:48 p.m., the silver Honda crashed, killing a 31-year-old passenger. The driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment.
SIRT, led by its Civilian Executive Director and six investigators, is reviewing police actions during the incident. MJPS will handle the investigation of the driver. SIRT’s findings will be publicly available within 90 days of the investigation’s conclusion.
