The Government of Saskatchewan and its Crown corporations are preparing contingency plans in anticipation of a potential postal service disruption starting as early as Friday.
To avoid service delays, ministries encourage clients and suppliers to use direct deposit for payments. The Ministry of Social Services is developing alternative payment distribution for clients who receive mailed benefits, though most currently use direct deposit.
For Health Ministry services, applications for drug benefits and extended health plans may be submitted by email or in person in Regina.
The Ministry of Finance is also prepared to make supplier cheques available for pickup if direct deposit isn’t available. Tax filings, refunds, and payment methods remain unaffected, though businesses must continue timely filings.
Utility companies are urging customers to set up electronic accounts for billing and other services and expect longer customer service wait times if a strike occurs.
