Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Brown ready to go extra Mile(s) this offseason

The one that got away is a predominant feeling for Saskatchewan Roughriders players.

The team went their separate ways after the 2024 season ended following a 38-22 loss to Winnipeg in the West Final. Defensive lineman Miles Brown played through a tough shoulder injury at Princess Auto Stadium.

“We had a great, great team. Good groups and it hurts when you can’t get the job done.”

After missing the postseason in his first two seasons with the Riders, Brown was part of a group that finished the regular season at 9-8-1, earning a postseason berth and a home playoff game. Brown believes that progression on the field is going to continue.

“Absolutely, in [Corey] Mace’s first year, we’ve set a good foundation for ourselves. We know what we want, the standard and we have to live up to that going forward.”

The 27-year-old from Cheverly, MD suited up for 16 games with the Green and White in 2024, racking up 13 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. However, Brown is currently set to become a free agent this offseason. His desire to return is due mainly to the bond he’s built with his teammates and their willingness to tie up unfinished business.

“I love this group, man. It hurts the most because you got some real good guys in this group. Especially in my group in the D-line room, we have a lot of fun,” Brown said while smiling.

“We laugh, we love on each other, we appreciate each other and we work hard. We are a close-knit group, but we’ll see what next year has for us, I guess.”

Before he looks ahead to next year and his future, Brown admits it will take time to get past this season’s ending.

“I guess until the emotions are all gone. Do what you got to do, cry about it, breathe it out, and then get back to work.”

For now, maintaining contact with his teammates is a priority this offseason amid workout regimes.

“It’s important that we all stay connected, we all keep in touch, and when we come back, it’ll be like we never left,” Brown said.

The Roughriders won’t physically be together until the team opens camp in May. Until then, Brown is ready to work in the offseason toward earning a new contract and a spot in the 112th Grey Cup game.
