Some of the best moments in life were spent with friends at the arcade playing video games and, possibly, setting records on the machines. Long before social media and smartphones, arcades were the place where kids and teens would gather, joke around, and have fun.
According to The Gamer, the top five most popular arcade games look like this:
5) Marvel vs. Capcom 2
4) Mortal Kombat
3) Space Invaders
2) Street Fighter II
1) Pac-man
One of the most popular arcade and video games that people loved to play was Pong. The game was incredibly simple to play where players controlled “paddles” in a simulated game of table tennis. The game was originally released by Atari in November of 1972 and would go on to become the world’s first commercially successful arcade game.
Today, the game is still making history thanks to the next generation of kids and adults. Victoria Korhonen, an engineering student as Fanshawe College in Ontario just built the world’s smallest arcade game. Her Pong game measures just 2.5 inches tall and one inch wide. She says she always wanted to set a world record and after looking at some of the smaller world records out there she felt she could beat the world record for the smallest arcade game ever. The previous record was set by a person from North Carolina.
She hasn’t captured the world record just yet, but the measurments have been made, sent in, and now it’ll take about three months for official verification that Korhonen will enter the Guinness World Record book.
