GoFundMe has announced its Top 20 Most Generous Communities of 2024, highlighting the extraordinary generosity of Canadians.
Victoria, British Columbia, has claimed the top spot for the second consecutive year. Regina meanwhile, cracked the top 20 at number 15. The Queen City had 11,000 donors in the platform in 2024.
In 2024, over 19,500 Victorians donated through the platform, representing 21.3 per cent of the city’s population—more than one in five residents.
Across Canada, one in 13 adults made a donation on GoFundMe this year, raising $280 million for people, causes, and organizations worldwide. This marks an 8% increase compared to the $259 million raised in 2023. Despite challenges like rising costs of living, Canadians have shown remarkable kindness and resilience, stepping up to help those in need.
The list of most generous communities is based on the number of donations per capita, in municipalities over 50,000 people. Communities from coast to coast earned recognition for supporting a variety of causes, including urgent healthcare needs, small businesses, and humanitarian efforts.
GoFundMe’s report reflects how Canadians continue to prioritize helping others, even during tough times. The $280 million raised in 2024 represents a growing commitment to making a difference. Whether contributing to local initiatives or global causes, Canadian donors remain a source of hope and inspiration for communities everywhere.
