A mix of familiar and new at Western Canadian Crop Production Show

The pieces are starting to fit together as preparation continues at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon, the site of the Western Canadian Crop Production Show from Tuesday through Thursday.

Agriculture Manager for Prairieland Leigh Ann Hurlburt says farm equipment started to move in last Wednesday.

“It’s kind of like a puzzle, so we spend some time with our operations team about a month ahead and we map out what time everybody moves in and we move in one side of the building to the furthest away from the overhead doors to the closest to the doors,” Hurlburt explained. “It works pretty good and we have a great volunteer committee that comes in to help us that are very knowledgeable and help all the exhibitors get in place.”

Hurlburt says about 15 people are involved with the move in process and another 50 to 60 people work during the three-day event.

There are 339 exhibitors at Crop Production Show this year, a slight increase from the previous year. Hurlburt says some exhibitors have changed the size of their space to accommodate more businesses to set up at the venue.

“It’s going to be a mix of what you’ve seen before and some very new items,” she stated.

Several presentations will be featured throughout the three days at the NuFarm Information Theatre, located in Hall B at Pairieland, along with the announcement of this year’s inductees into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame on Tuesday morning at 11:30. A list of presentations, including an overview of what it entails and a biography of the speaker, can be found at cropproductionshow.com.

The Saskatchewan Mustard and Oat Development Commissions will be holding their Annual General Meetings in Hall E at Prairieland. SaskOats will have its AGM on Wednesday from 8:45 a.m. to noon and SaskMustard will have its meeting on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their agendas can be found on the SaskOats and SaskMustard websites.

Regarding prices of admission, a one-day pass is 22 dollars, a two-day pass is 40 dollars and a seminar on Thursday called “The Business of Farming” featuring Shaun Haney from RealAgriculture is 50 dollars, which includes admission and lunch.

A floor plan and show guide will be available at the door.
