The new CEO of the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce joined Good Morning Saskatchewan to talk about the business advantages of Regina and what American imposed tariffs could mean for the local economy. Mike Tate started at the CEO on January 2nd and is taking the helm at what could be a difficult time ahead for the Saskatchewan economy.

“Our trade and exports as a province continue to break records. That’s really our primary support system to get our products to the marketplace and the world, so any time you’re talking tariffs of that nature, ultimately we just become less competitive from a pricing standpoint and that would certainly hurt all our exports,” Tate says.

Recently, all the Premiers of Canada joined the Prime Minister for a roundtable discussion on the various options and what retaliatory measures could be taken against the US if President-elect Donald Trump imposes them when he officially becomes President on January 20th.

“We need them (The US) to be supportive of Canada and our exports and what we offer,” explained Tate. “The good news is they need it and I really hope there’s a solution here and not what we keep hearing in the headlines.”

Mike Tate is born and raised in Regina with an extensive business background in large companies, start-ups, entrepreneurship, and the restaurant/hospitality industry.
