WINTER!
Bracing cold. Runny nose. Coughing and hacking. It’s all happening! The start of a new year might have you hung up on new year resolutions, that most times are never achieved, so make one you can actually work on! It never hurts to stop and reset. The pharmacy at Walmart was making an effort to give people a bit of a nudge to a healthy lifestyle. I ask, why wouldn’t you stop and say hi. And while your at it get some information about flu shots, Covid-shots, smoking cessation, diabetes, blood sugar and blood pressure.
Diet and exercise is important, I think everyone is aware of that. And no matter what part of the year we are in, it is important to make an effort to look at both of these pillars of wellness. Making the effort of being active and cutting back on some of the things we enjoy too much of. I’m guilty of too many snack foods, things like candy and salty snacks. It is hard even consider going outside when its minus 30 or colder. BLAH! I guess that’s why there are gyms and fitness centres. I admire those that will run in winter or bike here and there – NO I DON’T – they are crazy!! Even the smallest of work out routines at home or at a gym can give you a boost when it comes to feeling physically in touch with your body. Take the stairs. Walk around the block an extra time or two. You won’t be laughing at mall walkers after you start to feel the “burn”!
The body isn’t the only thing that needs a work out, remember your mind, body and soul. Some people dread going to see a doctor, of whatever kind. Dentists – you always have to pay. Your physician; hard to find one that works for you and has your best health in mind and a doc you feel really “gets” you. Then the mental health aspect, I once went to a doctor who had the assistant go over some questions with me and then basically said I needed a holiday. This was after I had fallen a couple times wacking my head. Sure, don’t we all need holidays, but I don’t think my employer is going to buy that prescription. That visit was humiliating.
Be kind to yourself, look after the little things. The thinks you can control. Don’t feel like you have to keep up with the friend or neighbour that has everything. Chances are they don’t and might be envious of you.
