Looking for a new mattress is like trying on shoes, getting new glasses, buying a new car. Looking for a new mattress is like, giving up on an old friend, but finding out that change is probably a good thing. You might as well lump mattress shopping in with getting your dental work done or going to the doctor for a physical. It is painful, unnecessarily stressful, expensive and time consuming.
Extreme, yes. True, kind of.
I was on vacation and slept really great in a single bunk-bed. I had to jump up onto the bed which had been physical altered to fit the space, but it was comfortable and I didn’t have problems like I am encountering now! As a side sleeper, I make sure I start the night out laying on my back. And take Tylenol! My left hip hurts so much that I walk like I’m a hundred years old until I get warmed up. Sitting is a pain, definitely stretching hurts. My neck, my shoulder, my arm, my leg – I’m all messed up.
I’ve even taken to sleeping in different parts of the mattress. Its not just the weather is driving me crazy! I’ve been checking on a variety of websites for information on mattresses. I’ve gotten used to the depth of my pillow top that I have had now for years. It has to be around 25 years old. YIKES!!! And let’s talk about the frame. It was originally the wooden frame for a futon mattress and now I question how strong the cross boards remain after all those years! Creak!
The old mattress has been flipped on a regular basis. It has no stains and is bug free. And that’s the other thing. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR OLD MATTRESS. Remember, don’t drop them along the side of a rural road, nor leave them at the side of a dumpster!! I actually think of those people that may not even have a mattress to crash on, any day!
The date book is out to clear off some time to go on a mattress quest. If you have some good information about where you found your best sleep, let me know. Please.
