Canada’s Two Major Railways Continued to Struggle With Meeting Grain Delivery Needs in Week 31: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 58% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 31, representing a very modest improvement from the 57% order fulfillment performance seen in week 30.

The railways still have been unable to fulfill more than 58% of shipper orders over the last six weeks.

That’s according to the Ag Transport Coalition.

In supplying 67% of cars ordered by shippers in week 31, CN performance retreated from the 70% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a thirty-third straight week.

CPKC saw performance improve modestly once again, with the railway supplying 45% of shipper orders in week 31 as compared to the 39% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CPKC has now failed to supply more than 55% of cars ordered by shippers for eight consecutive weeks, and has not reached the 50% threshold for five consecutive weeks.

CPKC performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a fifteenth consecutive week.
