SASKATCHEWAN – A wintery mix of precipitation continues Friday across some of Saskatchewan, especially along the Yellowhead corridor.
A band of snow that has brought significant accumulations to the region will gradually ease through Friday morning.
In addition to snowfall, strong easterly winds have created reduced visibilities and poor highway travel conditions. Overnight, a portion of Hwy 3 was closed. It has reopened but now parts of Hwy 16 and 6 are closed. Check the Highway Hotline before heading out.
Some areas have seen freezing rain as well.
RCMP advise that before travelling, check the weather and road conditions along your route. If poor weather or road conditions exist or are forecast, consider delaying travel if possible. If travel is necessary, stay on roads that have recently received road maintenance. Travellers can access information on road conditions and track which roads have been plowed, salted, and/or sanded within the last two hours at hotline.gov.sk.ca/map (English only).
Saskatchewan RCMP reminds the public to avoid calling 911 or local RCMP detachments for updates on road conditions. Calling 911 must be reserved for emergencies and crimes in progress, and using it in non-emergent situations could prevent someone with a life-threatening emergency from getting help.
