Saskatchewan is leading the country in organ donation and growing its programs to help more patients.
The province reached a new record in 2023 with 28.9 deceased organ donors per million people, the highest in Canada, according to the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
April is National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month, and Saskatchewan is marking the event with many activities, including Green Shirt Day on April 7, which honors Logan Boulet.
Boulet’s story inspired nearly 150,000 Canadians to register as organ donors.
The province will also light the T.C. Douglas Building green and share donor stories through the Great Actions Leave a Mark campaign.
The 2025-26 budget adds over $319,000 to support the Organ and Tissue Donation Program and nearly $4.3 million to improve dialysis services and kidney health across the province.
Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill says these steps show a strong commitment to saving lives.
Anyone over age 16 can register to become a donor or learn how to be a living donor at saskatchewan.ca.
