Former Saskatoon mayoral candidate among 3 charged in N. B’ford robbery

NORTH BATTLEFORD – Former Saskatoon mayoral candidate Mark Zielke is among the three people facing charges following an alleged robbery and assault at a North Battleford business.

Zielke was previously a mayoral candidate in the 2020 civic election in Saskatoon.

Police reported that on April 5 at approximately 10:40 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a robbery at a business on Highway 16 in North Battleford.

Officers immediately responded. The investigation determined three suspects entered the business. The employees were threatened with a firearm. The suspects allegedly assaulted one employee, who was later treated at the hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature. The suspects allegedly stole a sum of cash, electronics and ID/financial cards, then fled in a vehicle on Highway 16.

The investigation determined the vehicle was near the Borden Bridge. With the assistance of Warman RCMP and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan, officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the three occupants without incident.

Officers located and seized the items reported as stolen, as well as a loaded handgun, from the vehicle.

As a result of continued investigation, 41-year-old Mark Zielke, from Saskatoon, 44-year-old Tyson Moore, from Saskatoon, and 41-year-old David Dominguez, from Corman Park, are each charged with:

– one count, pointing a firearm;

– one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;

– one count, robbery with firearm;

– two counts, assault with weapon;

– one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle;

– one count, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized;

– one count, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition;

– one count, careless use of a firearm;

– one count, carry concealed weapon;

– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;

– one count, forcible confinement;

– one count, utter threats; and

– one count, commit mischief under $5,000.

The allegations haven’t been tested in court.

The three accused were scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 7.

Zielke is due back in court on April 28; Dominguez is adjourned to May 6; while the next date for Moore’s matters is still being updated.
