The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is warning the public about possible measles exposure in Regina.
The risk is connected to visits on April 9 to the Walmart Superstore on Gordon Road from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., and the nearby Bass Pro Shop from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. People who were in either store during those times should watch for symptoms of measles for up to 21 days.
Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, white spots in the mouth, and a red rash that spreads. The SHA says people who were exposed and feel sick should call HealthLine 811 or a health provider before visiting a clinic. People may be able to get treatment to prevent illness within six days of exposure.
Measles spreads easily through the air and on surfaces. It can infect others for several days before and after a rash appears.
The SHA reminds the public that two doses of the measles vaccine are almost 100% effective. The vaccine is free and safe, and helps protect families and communities from the disease.
