For many years Coca-Cola dominated the soft drink scene and while it continues to do very well, a different flavour of pop has emerged as the number one choice amongst the “Gen-Z” crowd.
A new survey of over 6,400 people found that Dr. Pepper has taking over as the number one pop amongst those between the ages of 13 and 28. While this is a significant change on the soda scene, Coca-Cola still has the largest market share overall at 19.2 per cent compared to Dr. Pepper’s 8.3 per cent.
This survey of Gen-Z’ers also found the majority admit pop is their number one choice when it comes to beverages overall. Water was the second most popular followed by energy drinks.
Despite being one of the oldest soda brands out there, Dr. Pepper has seen their popularity rise slowly over the years. Dr. Pepper was founded in Waco, Texas in 1885, pre-dating both Coca-Cola and Pepsi. It started out as more of a regional favourite but by the 1970’s it had taken off nationally and internationally and would go on to become one of the most popular alternatives to Coke and Pepsi.
Today, the makers of Dr. Pepper have a number of unique flavours on the market including blackberry, zero-sugar, and creamy coconut among others. Keurig brand has also teamed up with Dr. Pepper to release new flavours in 2025 such as 7-Up tropical, Snapple Peach Tea and Lemonade, and even A&W Ice Cream Sundae flavour.
