Local Tim Hortons restaurants will be kicking off their annual smile cookie campaign on Monday which gives Saskatchewanians a tasty reason to help local charities. This year, proceeds from the smile cookie campaign in Regina will be donated to the Regina and District Food Bank and to the First Steps Wellness Centre.
The First Steps Wellness Centre is a program designed to rehabilitate adults and children with neurological disorders. The facility is the first activity-based therapy centre located in Canada with proceeds from the smile cookie campaign assisting in the purchase of equipment.
“It’s really exciting to see the Regina community rally behind this program,” stated Tara Mything of Tim Hortons in Regina. “Everyone is always excited to see those chocolate chunk cookies with that signature smile on it and, so, we like to see that.”
Last year’s cookie campaign raised over $180,000 in the Queen city, which helps the Regina and District Food Bank in a huge way.
“It’s very impactful in helping us. One, feed the people that we serve, but also supports some of our innovative projects like the community food hub and our own white label projects, so it’s definitely very impactful for us,” explained Evelyn Cerda, VP of Impacts and Partnerships with the Regina Food Bank.
Mything suggests customers who are placing large office orders of cookies should call ahead to ensure their boxes of cookies are packaged and ready for pick-up. Cookies can also be ordered online through the Regina Food Bank website or on the Tim Hortons app.
“You can buy them for someone else and share a smile. Also, you can sponsor a school with us if you go on our website you can send cookies to a school for kids that might not have them,” Cerda said.
For those who cannot eat cookies but would still like to participate and help out, plush cookies will also be sold at Tim Hortons restaurants.
Smile Cookie week is April 28th to May 4th.
