Our journey took us to the quaint community of Marquis as we were excited to share our time with Chris and Jackie Waldenberger, the recipients our our 620 CKRM Country Cookout. What a beautiful evening with a perfect atmosphere at the Waldenberger’s South of Marquis.
Can’t do this without our fantastic sponsors.

Thanks to Kevin Schultz for entertaining us with his covers and original music. We would also like to thank the Saskatchewan Roughriders for joining in the celebration, in particular, players A.J Ouellette, Mario Alford, along with Karina Peterson (Manager, Game Entertainment & Community), Kevin Clive (Sr. Sales & Partner relations Exec) and Kent Paul (Chief Financial Officer). They brought out their sense of enthusiasm along with some swag (team signed football) for our winners.
My adventurous side is always pulling at me to check out the nearby communities. I always pull into these rural towns and imagine what it was like back in its heyday. First stop was Tuxford. Named after Brigadier General G.S Tuxford, who wined and dined the CPR officials to name the town after his namesake.

Then we were off to Keeler. The hamlet was named after its first settler to arrive in the area Mr. Joseph P. Keelor in 1902.

Brownlee was next down the line and was Brownlee that was incorporated as a village in 1908. Brownlee was named for a superintendent of the Moose Jaw Division of the CPR.

Enough gallivanting around let’s head to our intended destination……. Marquis. Marquis is 25 miles North of Moose Jaw. When the CPR right of way came through in 1909, the CPR called it Marquis to honour a hybrid type of wheat developed by Charles Saunders.

Alright let’s go hang with our winners the Waldenberger’s who live just south of Marquis. Big Thanks to Chris, Jackie, Ben, Will, and the entire family and friends for the hospitality and great evening. What a great atmosphere!
