This past weekend the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Mary’s, Ontario held their 2025 induction ceremony and a Saskatchewan ball player was amongst those honoured.
Arleene (Johnson) Noga, originally from Ogema, was an infielder in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1945 to 1948 and left a major impact on the sport while inspiring countless female athletes along the way. Once nicknamed the “iron lady” for her streak of over 300 games played consecutively, she’d go on to set a record for best fielding percentage and help the Muskegon Lassies win a championship.
Born in 1924, Noga started playing baseball while in high school before moving to Regina and participating in the Ladies Intercity Softball Senior A League. She’d go on to become one of 68 Canadian girls to play in the All American Professional Girls League in the United States. Her first team was the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1945 before moving to the Lassies in Muskegon, Michigan.
After her years in AAGPBL, Noga would continue her love of baseball in Saskatchewan, playing on nine provincial championship softball teams and five western Canadian Championship teams.
Sadly, Noga passed away in 2017 but her daughter Carol-Lee Noga Scott was in attendance at the induction ceremony this weekend.
Also inducted this year were Jose Bautista, Erik Bedard, Gerry Snyder, Amanda Asay, and Greg Hamilton. CLICK HERE to learn more about this year’s inductees.
