An all-Saskatchewan battle for the Prairie Football Championship won’t be happening.
The Edmonton Huskies walked into Leibel Field and left with a hard-fought 20-17 win in a semi-final game to send them to the league final next weekend in Saskatoon.
Edmonton quarterback Declan O’Flaherty had his team going right from the opening kickoff as he threw first quarter touchdown passes to Sam Clayton and Ron Oling to give the visiting team a 15-1 lead after one quarter,
The Thunder fought back and closed the gap to 19-17 on an 18 yard touchdown run by quarterback Blake Scherle with five minutes to go, but an Edmonton single increased the lead to three and Regina could not get into position for a potential game-tying field goal at the end.
At halftime, the team announced its 20th anniversary team. Some of those on the squad include quarterback Asher Hastings, running back Stu Foord, receiver Chris Getzlaf, offensive lineman Dan Clark, defensive lineman Zack Evans and defensive back Paul Woldu.
