Moe feels province is doing what it needs to in northern Saskatchewan to stop spread of COVID-19

The biggest area of concern in Saskatchewan when it comes to COVID-19 continues to be the Far North.

On Monday, the province announced 34 new cases with 29 of them coming from the Far North ( La Loche and area) with 97 of the 154 active cases in that region.

Premier Scott Moe was asked if the government had done enough to prevent the virus from hitting the far north. He said that they are and that because of the increased testing being done that we could see more numbers like the ones seen Monday.

“I don’t think  it should be unexpected that we may see some relatively large numbers throughout that area for a number of reasons,” Moe said Monday during the government’s daily briefing on COVID-19. “One, we’re going back to about two weeks, when the infection started, when maybe physical distancing wasn’t the priority it is today in those communities. Two, we’re testing more in those areas.”

While COVID-19 does not have a great presence in other parts of the province, Moe said that could change if people relax and stop doing what they have been doing over the past number of weeks to flatten the curve allowing the province to start re-opening the province in phases which started Monday.

“This virus can and will spread quickly if we let our guard down even for a moment,” Moe said.
