A return to dry weather enables Sask. farmers to resume harvest

A return to dry weather is enabling many farmers to get back on the combine this week.

The regional crop specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts, says farmers are in a rush to wrap up the 2019 harvest, which ranges from 60 to 100 percent depending on the area of the southeast.

She says it could take several more weeks for combining to finish.

She says farmers in the southeast need 3 weeks of dry weather to wrap up harvest because of some late maturing crops like sunflowers, corn, and soybeans.

Roberts says yields are average to above average but crop quality is suffering because of wet weather this fall.

She says canola is maintaining better grades but cereal crops and even flax have shown some downgrading factors.
