It was on May 8, 1945 that the Allies accepted Germany’s surrender bringing an end to World War 2 in Europe.
At the Saskatchewan War Memorial on Friday Premier Scott Moe and Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty along with his wife laid a wreath to commemorate the 75th year anniversary and remember all of those from Saskatchewan who were lost.

Events are happening across the country today with most of them being virtual because of COVID-19. In Regina, the president of the local chapter of the Royal Canadian Legion Ron Hitchcock and three others played the bagpipes at 3 PM.
“We had a tribute to the bagpipers who led troops into battle.” Hitchcock said. “Something some may not know is that until 1996, they were considered a weapon of war because they would stir the troops to follow and it would scare the hell out of the enemy.”
