Wascana Park becomes more accessible with new app

A new project at Wascana Park in Regina is making the park more accessible and inclusive for people with vision loss.
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind has placed over 230 GPS points around the main walking path in Wascana Park that will help visitors with sight loss navigate independently using an app called BlindSquare.
Ashley Nemeth with CNIB Foundation Sask. says the app uses those beacons to give audio information while on their visit at the park.
“So now, they can go through the park using the app, and be able to know where there’s seating areas, or lookouts, or the park where Wascana Pool used to be, the gardens at the Leg, that kind of thing,” said Nemeth.
Physically beacons have also been established at the Legislative Building, the Wascana Centre offices and local businesses near the park.
