It seems like I’ve blogged about this topic a million times over the years, but it never ceases to amaze me. I still shake my head in wonder at the activity that goes on while most people are fast asleep. Weather never seems to slow it down. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 15 degrees above or minus 38 with the wind chill, like it was this morning, there are always people out and about at 3 A.M. when I roll into work.

This morning I saw 6 people on 4th Avenue between Lewvan Drive and Albert Street. Two of those were riding there bikes in circles! I don’t know about you, but if I was riding a bike in this weather I’d be going from point A to Point B as fast as my feet could pedal. I certainly wouldn’t be circling 4th Avenue like I hadn’t a care in the world. The other four people I saw were just ambling along like they were enjoying a beautiful summer morning.

I also passed a flatbed tow truck on 4th Avenue driving in the opposite direction. Seeing as those vehicles don’t drive around just for the sake of it, I kind of figured it was on it’s way to pick up a vehicle somewhere. Maybe someone got an impaired or there was an accident somewhere.

When I got onto Albert Street I noticed a couple of cop cars with lights flashing pulled up behind a vehicle that had a few people in it. I don’t know what was going on there, but I had a feeling that a flatbed tow truck might be needed there as well.

Then as I approached Dewdney I saw an ambulance pull out of the old Capital GMC building and make it’s way to wherever it was going. It’s lights weren’t flashing, but it’s services were definitely needed somewhere.

My dad used to tell me, “Nothing good happens after midnight.” That might be true, but a lot sure does happen after midnight!
