A man who stole a bike from a garage was arrested by Regina police on Thursday night after a former sworn member of the force stopped the culprit.

The Regina Police Service sent officers at about 8:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Laval Drive in the city’s University Park neighbourhood for a weapons offence incident.

According to the police report, a man had entered a garage and stole a bicycle. Surrounding neighbours who witnessed the theft tried to stop the suspect, but he revealed a knife.

The man was followed through a school yard and was apprehended a few blocks away from the garage by a retired Regina police officer, who was one of the neighbouring witnesses. RPS members arrived to the scene and arrested the individual without issue.

Police found the suspect, 32-year-old Terence Dwayne Machiskinic of Saskatoon, was in possession of break-in instruments and a substance believed to be amphetamines. He was also found to be in violation of probation conditions and has outstanding warrants.

Machiskinic faces seven charges including break, enter and commit. He appeared before provincial court on Friday morning on his charges.
