Mayor Fougere weighs in on Regina being CFL hub city

There are reports that the CFL has looked into a hub city approach for the 2020 season, and that Regina is being considered to host games with no fans under this model.
Mayor Michael Fougere says he has not heard from the league or the Saskatchewan Roughriders about this, so to his knowledge no bid has been submitted.
But as COVID-19 numbers remain low in the area, Fougere says Regina seems like the natural fit for the hub city model.
“Regina’s right in the middle of western Canada, and we have the best stadium in Canada too, we have the infrastructure for it as well, of course,” said Fougere. “This would be a virtual game, there wouldn’t be people in the stands, it’d just be the teams themselves. At a high level, without really looking into it, Regina’s a natural place to be selected. There’s other cities that, of course, could do it, but I think Regina is well placed for that.”
Other sports leagues have reportedly also explored a hub model approach, such as Major League Baseball, the NHL and NBA.
