Retail businesses that were closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic are reopening Tuesday as phase two of Saskatchewan’s Re-open Plan gets underway.

Among the businesses that can resume operations are select personal services like hair salons and barbers. For the staff at Mirror Mirror Beauty Parlour on Quance Street in east Regina, they are welcoming their clients back after closing up shop a few weeks ago.

Co-owner Tamara Kardash said she and her staff have been taking their time to make preparations amid the pandemic. It’s everything from learning new protocols that follow the province’s health measures to getting in contact with other businesses so they can deliver their services in a safe manner.

“Besides following the Saskatchewan government’s requirements for our reopening, our staff members have been trained on our barbicide certifications to practice proper sanitation and disinfection procedures to maintain high industry standards,” said Kardash.

“We have been busy detailing our salon, ordering retail and safety products including PPE masks and IsoGel, revamping our website, advertising and connecting with our local businesses,” shared co-owner Courtney Christensen.

The co-owners realize some personal services businesses aren’t able to open this week or even this month, which has them feeling thankful for the opportunity to keep going.

“It was kind of a blessing in disguise to have time to focus on the business, get behind the business, pull together as a community and as a partnership,” added Christensen and Kardash.

Business is looking good for their reopening. Kardash said they are very booked, however but she mentioned that they are always welcoming new clients and new staff.
