Call to Improve Indigenous Graduation Rates

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation are alarmed that the graduation rates for First Nations students remains significantly lower than that of non-First Nations students.

Data from Saskatchewan Education shows that the 2019 three-year graduation rate for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students dropped to 43.4 per cent from 44.5 per cent.

Patrick Maze, President of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation says the government has committed to improving graduation rates for Indigenous students, but their plan isn’t working.

Maze adds that it’s unacceptable that the education gap remains so large and that it’s time to do more.
