Joey Chestnut ready to take a bite out of hunger with the help of mini donuts at the Queen City Ex

Many people come to the Queen City Ex to savour the taste of mini donuts, world record eating champion, Joey Chestnut is planning to enjoy the mini donuts, but he may not have enough time to enjoy the taste.

Chestnut will be competing in a mini donut eating contest Friday afternoon. The contest is done to help support the Regina Food Bank with other participants required to fundraise at least a $1,000 to compete in the mini donut contest alongside Chestnut.

An invitation was extended to Chestnut back in May to compete as apart of the fundraiser in Regina and he said that he quickly accepted the offer.

The record for mini donuts is already held by Chestnut, as he devoured 223 in a span of eight minutes. He’s hoping for a delicious treat when he’s competing in Regina.

“These might be little bit bigger donuts, I’m hoping they’re not too much bigger, I’m just hoping I can find my happy place and hoping they’re delicious. ”

Chestnut provided more strategies for Friday’s contest. “I’ll squeeze them a little bit and then I get into a nice little rhythm where I’m chewing a little water swallow and chew, chew, chew, bite, I’ll use water to help swallow but no dunking.”

A man who owns 55 records, he noted that a couple of them stand out in particular. His hot dog record of eating 76 hot dogs in ten minutes, along with his hard boiled egg record of eating 141 in eight minutes.

Chestnut explained that competitive eating career began being apart a big family with him and his brothers being very competitive over the food on the dinner table. During college days, his younger brother signed him up for a competitive eating contest. After he brushed aside some jitters, Chestnut felt that he was now doing something that he was destined to do.

Even with the newfound success, the famous eating champion didn’t realize he had a prosperous career on his hands.

“I finished my engineering degree and working construction management, I was always a weekend warrior and it eventually grew into something I would never imagine and I love it.”

To keep up with his competitive eating, the 38 year old says that he does lot of training to keep himself in game shape.

“It’s a battle, before I hurt my leg, I use to run quite a bit, get on the Peloton, now the biggest thing for me is dieting afterwards, I have to be really good about my diet. Grains, high fibre, almost no carbs, no sugar, and high protein. ”

With his career, Chestnut has been able to travel the world and has been able to enter several different contests. He noted he’s ate kimchee in Korea, shrimp wontons in Thailand, hot dogs in France are among the 20 different countries he has experienced.

Along with his records, the native of Vallejo, California noted there a several dishes that are among his favourite. He pointed out that he’s always been a fan of king crab, Mexican food especially tacos, and his mom’s home cooking including her chicken parmesan.

Chestnut added that he has enjoyed his stop in the Queen City so far.

“It’s beautiful, I’m so lucky that the weather is great today, I love it.”

The mini-donut is apart of Friday’s festivities of the Queen City Ex which wraps up on Sunday.
