RCMP investigating man’s death hours after release from custody

A man who was arrested and released by Morse RCMP died only two hours after being released from custody.
RCMP’s Major Crimes unit will now be investigating.
A 23-year-old man from Edmonton was arrested Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop indicated a small quantity of unknown pills during a search of a vehicle.
He was released at 3:45 p.m. without charges. RCMP then, at 5:45 p.m., learned the same male was receiving treatment from EMS. He was transported to hospital and died hours later.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service is also investigating, and RCMP have asked an independent observer be appointed by Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General.
