Police issue public safety alert in regards to overdose deaths

As a suspected overdose death in front of city hall illustrates, overdose deaths have been hitting Regina hard this year.
This month already there have been 12 suspected overdose deaths, and in 2023, there have been 84 in total … compared to 71 in this same time frame this year.
The vast majority of the victims are males between 30 and 40.
In issuing a public safety alert, police say possible overdose signs include difficulty walking, talking or staying awake, blue lips or nails, very small pupils, cold and clammy skin and dizziness and confusion.
They also suggest carrying and knowing how to use Naloxone.

Police also point out the importance of knowing the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act. This act protects those experiencing a drug overdose or anyone present during an overdose from charges for possession of a controlled substance when they call 9-1-1 for help.
