Sask farmers preparing for harvest in southeast Sask

Crops are ripening quickly with harvest about to start in southeast Saskatchewan.

The provincial crops extension specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts, says a few crops are ready for harvest this week.

Roberts sees a bumper crop in parts of the southeast because of weekly rains during the growing season.

But she says there are concerns about crop losses from plant diseases, insects and hail.

She says widespread hail wiped out crops in the Radville area last month.

Roberts says harvest will likely get underway next week but will be extended because it will take time for some late seeded crops to ripen.
