The Saskatchewan Roughriders added a veteran presence to their secondary on Tuesday with the signing of defensive back Trumaine Washington.

In 2021, Washington led the Canadian Football League (CFL) in interceptions (5) in 14 games.

Since entering the league in 2018, the five-year veteran has spent time with Toronto Argonauts (2018-19) Edmonton Elks (2019-21) Calgary Stampeders (2022). He also spent time with the Ottawa REDBLACKS in training camp in 2022. During his time in the CFL, he has recorded 153 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, 12 interceptions, two forced fumbles and one touchdown.

Washington spent the 2023 XFL season with the Orlando Guardians making nine tackles in five games.

The defensive back spent four collegiate seasons (2014-17) at the University of Louisville.

In a corresponding move, the Roughriders have released running back Rodney Smith.
