The Saskatchewan government and SaskPork are investing one million dollars to be prepared for a possible outbreak of African Swine Fever.

Agriculture minister David Marit says an outbreak of the deadly hog disease could disrupt major exports.

He says the province is providing 700 thousand dollars and SaskPork 300 thousand to support a cull line at the sow processing plant being built in Moose Jaw.

He says an African Swine Fever outbreak could shut down hog shipments and create a backlog.

Marit says Saskatchewan hog producers will benefit from the new sow processing facility in Moose Jaw since the nearest processing plant is hundreds of kilometers away in the U.S.
