The Saskatoon man who fired a gun in a crowded downtown bar last March was hoping to get shot by Saskatoon Police.

That is what was heard in a Saskatoon courtroom on Friday as 25-year-old Tyrell Davey received a five-year sentence after pleading guilty to the charges against him in connection with the March 3 incident

On that night, Davey walked into Hudsons and fired two shots into the ceiling. He was hoping it would result in him being shot by Saskatoon police but instead he was tackled and subdued by some customers.

His defence lawyer says Davey had some mental health issues that date back years and that he is now taking full responsibility for what happened on the night in question.
