The City of Regina is looking to form a new committee that oversees several ‘catalyst’ projects.
On Wednesday, Regina’s executive committee unanimously passed the terms of reference for the ‘Catalyst Committee.’
The committee will bring a strategic level of leadership to projects considered within the core of the City, which includes three primary projects. The replacement for the Brandt Centre, a new aquatics facility that would replace the aging Lawson Aquatic Centre, and a feasibility study for a multi-purpose outdoor facility for baseball.
The committee will remain open to supporting the inclusion of future identified sport, recreation, culture, and community projects. They will intend to develop a recommended site plan for key projects within the core of the City, propose a multi-modal connectivity opportunity, and develop a phasing and financing model that considers total Economic Impact.
The committee will comprise 16 members drawn from city council members, private businesses and public institutions.
Councillor Bob Hawkins and CEO and President of Regina Exhibition Association Limited Tim Reid will chair the group.
Individuals from the following areas join them:
- Two members of city council.
- Another member from REAL.
- A member from the downtown business improvement district.
- One member from the warehouse business improvement district.
- One member from economic development Regina.
- One member from the University of Regina.
- One member of a social profit or not-for-profit agency in the City’s core.
- One member who is Indigenous and represents Treaty 4 territory.
- One member from the Regina Public Library board of directors.
- One member of the arts and culture sector.
- One member represents a large employer headquartered in Regina.
- One member from the development, real-estate or construction community.
- One member representing next-generation leadership.
The committee will meet at least once a month and disband by March 31, 2023.
City council must approve the terms of reference with the vote expected to happen at next week’s City Council Meeting on August 17.
