Saskatchewan Water Securities Agency minister Jeremy Cockrill is reminding municipalities of the annual transition from the Emergency Flood damage reduction program to the flood damage reduction program for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The transition moves from the emergency focus toward long-term flood mitigation projects.

Applications from municipalities will be accepted until September 15th.

Cockrill says the measures help address emergencies before they arise, saving communities money and additional stress during an emergency.

Last year, the Village of Lebret received 32 thousand dollars in funding support to initiate flood protection engineering for the municipality.

The Water Security Agency is investing up to 500 thousand dollars in the flood reduction programs for the coming year.

The agency will accept proposals in four areas from communities and rural municipalities, including hydrologic studies, flood mapping, flood reduction and structural projects.

The program will cover costs up to March 31 of 2023.

Eligible projects will be cost-shared 50/50 basis.
