The Regina Pats were unable to tie things up in the third period during Saturday night’s road game versus the Winnipeg Ice, losing 5-4 at the Wayne Fleming Arena.
It was a back and forth affair between the two East Division clubs. After falling behind 2-1 at the end of the first period, the Pats notched two goals from Carter Massier and Drew Englot in the first half of the second period for a 3-2 lead. Ice forward Michael Milne equalized with a couple minutes to go in the period.
That may have been enough to swing momentum on Winnipeg’s side to start the third. Several minutes in, two goals nearly a minute and a half apart put the Ice on top 5-3 with just over 10 minutes to go in the period.
Massier managed to find the back of the net for a second time in the game, scoring at 10:21 to bring Regina within one. However Winnipeg held on to win it 5-4.
Max Paddock provided 33 saves in the loss.
Still with two wins to their name this season, the Regina Pats (2-12-2-0) will have to wait until Saturday for their next matchup against the Prince Albert Raiders during their Experience Regina Night at the Brandt Centre. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
