COVID-19 deaths in Saskatchewan hit 10

The province says two more people have died from complications related to COVID-19 bringing the total to 10 with four of the deaths happening in the last eight days.

The latest deaths are both from the Far North region.  One was in their 80’s with the other being in their 60’s.  This total includes a death that was being investigated by the Ministry of Health to see if the virus was the main contributor.

Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab says if steps are taken by all residents to continue following public measures, it will help reduce the chances of further deaths related to COVID-19 from happening in the province.

“Even though each death is tragic, if you look at the age ranges, we have to remember that we have been very fortunate in Saskatchewan,” explained Dr. Shahab.

“It has been primarily due to all the steps taken, all the diligence observed by family and friends about not visiting people in long-term care unless for essential or compassionate reasons.”

There are three new cases, two in Regina, bringing the provincial total to 637. 68 of the cases are considered active.
