Ottawa hosts 11th first ministers teleconference since start of pandemic

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosted his 11th first ministers teleconference with the premiers since the pandemic began.

In his daily media briefing Friday morning, Trudeau said items like the crisis on some long term care homes was discussed, as were discussions on getting businesses reopen, while maintaining community safety.

“Moving forward it will become even more important to identify and isolate this virus,” Trudeau said. “To do that effectively we need to coordinate across the country, a number of provinces have already reached out to us for support on contact tracing, our governments are currently working together on a data sharing platform.”

Trudeau was also asked about relations with China, specifically after a judge ruled Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou could be extradited to the U.S. to face fraud charges.

There are fears of a backlash against out country, but Trudeau said the government will work to ensure Canadians get the equipment we need during the pandemic.
