New fine options website now in operation

The John Howard Society of Saskatchewan has launched a new website to serve as a virtual information and registration portal for the Fine Options Program.

The program operates in Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw and allows individuals to work off their fine rather than paying for certain fines.

The Society says the website provides information to people on the program, including details about the types of work available, and the ability to be placed with an agency from the comfort of their own home.

JHSS Director of Justice Programs Amanda Richter-Goddard says, on top of keeping participants safe from the pandemic, the website also ensures the program is easily accessible to more people.

In 2019, JHSS helped Saskatchewan residents worked off more than 3,800 fines, representing more than $500,000 worth of volunteer labour given back to Saskatchewan non-profits.
