Number 1’s at 1 – June 3

Cody will have today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1. Coming up on the show:

One of the pioneers of the Bakersfield sound and a fella who inspired the likes of Buck Owens, Nick Lowe, and Merle Haggard scored a number 1 on this day in 1967. “Such a Pretty World Today” would become a major number one for Wynn Stewart.

Donna Fargo hit the top of the chart 48 years ago today with “The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA.” It would stay at number 1 for three weeks.

The Statler Brothers started their second week at number one with their first chart topper. “Do You Know You are my Sunshine” on this day in 1978. It would stay at number one for a total of two weeks that spring.

Ricky Skaggs found himself at the top of the chart on this day in 1984 with a song that had been recorded and released ten years earlier in 1974 by Webb Pierce. It did not chart for Pierce, but “Honey, Open That Door” became Skaggs 7th number one hit.

Steve Wariner snagged his 8th number one hit on this day in 1989 with “Where Did I go Wrong.” It would stay at the top for one week before being replaced by Clint Black’s “A Better Man.”

Joel Feeney was number one in Canada this week in 1995 with “What Kind of Man.”

Terri Clark reached number one in Canada on this day in 1996 with “If I were You.”

And we’ll celebrate a birthday on today’s show! Jamie O’Neal turns 54 today.

I Hope you’ll join us for these hits and more at 1:00 this afternoon on 620 CKRM.
