City gets all its money back

The City of Saskatoon has recovered all its missing funds.

Today, an Ontario Superior Court Justice ordered the return of 335-thousand dollars. That means the City of Saskatoon can recover all $1.04 million that was fraudulently directed to a bank account in August 2019.

The City was also awarded $25-thousand dollars in court costs. Each defendant in the case has 30 days to appeal and until then money will be held in trust by the City’s lawyers.

In August, it was reported that $1-million-40-thousand had been deposited into a fraudster’s bank account before it was realized a suspect or suspects were impersonating the CFO of Allan Construction, a company contracted by the city, and had the banking information changed.

City Manager Jeff Jorgenson says they have implemented measures that will make sure nothing like this happens again.
