Construction of tipi begins In Yorkton

Work on a tipi at Yorkton’s City Centre Park is underway.

Mayor Mitch Hippsley states that with the project, Truth and Reconciliation is finally surfacing in Yorkton.

Hippsley says that the idea for the project came to light about a year ago, when a number of people thought there wasn’t enough Indigenous representation in the city.

Yorkton Tribal Council began the proceedings with a blessing of the area.

Tribal Chief Isabel O’Soup called it an emotional ceremony.

The sundial at city centre park has been moved to the Yorkton Brick Mill to make room for the teepee.

This will be one of two tipis that will be constructed, with the second being built near to the Yorkton Tourism office.
