Pats hold on to win 5-4 over Wheat Kings

Another successful outing on special teams helped the Regina Pats defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-4 on Saturday night in Brandon.

The Pats went two for four on the power play and held the Wheat Kings to nothing on two attempts while on the penalty kill.

Regina put together a big third period performance after a 2-2 score heading into the final frame.

Two goals in the opening minutes from Carson Denomie and Robbie Holmes gave the Pats a 4-2 lead.

Following a Johnny Lambos marker for Brandon before the halfway mark of the period to make it 4-3, Kyle Walker found the back of the net for the second time this season at 16:54, putting the Pats up by two once again.

A shorthanded goal by Braden Schneider made things interesting towards the very end, cutting the lead to one goal. Despite a strong push from the Wheat Kings, Walker’s tally ended up being the game-winning goal to beat Brandon 5-4.

Backup goaltender Donovan Buskey pushed aside 27 shots for his first win with Regina.

The Pats have a couple days off before they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday.
