Many Crossfit gyms across Canada are looking for new names after cutting ties with the parent company.
The Regina facility is one of those doing so after Crossfit’s founder made some insensitive comments on his Twitter account about the Black Lives Matter protests that happened across North America
Josh Roundell is the co-owner of what will be Crossfit Regina until the end of the month when a new name will be given to his facility on McDonald Street.
He says the comments made by Greg Glassman simply don’t align with the views they have so a split is the sensible thing to do and that the decision to make this move was one that really wasn’t tough.
Affiliate fees were to be paid to Crossfit, but Roundell says those fees are now going elsewhere.
“We are going to contribute those fees to the Black Lives Matter Canada movement.” Roundell said. “It is something we feel is more than appropriate as it gives us a voice to stand up and say something,”
Roundell says his facility is proud to have always been an inclusive community and that racism or discrimination of any kind is something that will not be tolerated.
