Thunder shock Hilltops with Overtime win

The Regina Thunder remain undefeated for the 2022 season, and they did it in dramatic fashion on Saturday night with 29-21 overtime win over their provincial rivals, the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Saskatoon opened up with a 10-3 advantage after the first half. The Hilltops added four more points before the Thunder got their first touchdown of the night from Keane Szabo to cut the margin to 14-11.

The Hilltops would add to their lead with another touchdown as they extended their lead to 21-11.

Eric Maximuik started the resurgence for the Thunder in the fourth quarter with a 30 yard field goal to make it a one score game with just over six minutes left in the game.

With 16 seconds remaining in the game, Regina was able to tie the game as QB Carter Shewchuk found Isiah Woodley for a touchdown to tie the game and to send it into overtime.

In the extra time after the Hilltops were unable to score with their possession, Ryland Leichart scored the game winning touchdown for the Thunder to give Regina the win in the first game of the home and home set.

The Thunder are now 4-0 on the season.

The two teams will meet once again, next Saturday as apart of Football Weekend in Saskatchewan. The game can be heard on 620 CKRM with an opening kickoff at 1:00.
